Vice-premier Wen Jiabao visited the State Oceanic Administration on Thursday and conveyed the season's greetings via satellite to the Antarctic expedition members.

Vice-premier Wen Jiabao visited the State Oceanic Administration on Thursday and conveyed the season's greetings via satellite to the Antarctic expedition members.
At 9:00 am, Wen called the Great Wall station, China's headquarters in Antarctica, the Zhongshan Station and the Xuelong icebreaker. After hearing work reports of expedition leaders, Wen made an enthusiastic speech.
Wen pointed out that the expedition was very important in studying changes to the earth's environment as well as to predict human adaptability. The expedition work was a glorious, but arduous cause.
The scientific base was established in November 1984 and has successfully completed 18 scientific expeditions.
China's 19th expedition is currently underway. During the four-month expedition which started on Nov. 20, 2002, and will end thisMarch, 148 members will carry out 27 scientific studies at the Great Wall station and Zhongshan station.
