The Indonesian government will join international efforts to defuse the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula by sending a special envoy to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), diplomatic sources said on Friday.

Nana Sutresna, a special envoy of Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri, is scheduled to start a four-day visit to Pyongyangon Feb. 8, arriving on a regular commercial flight from Beijing, said a diplomat from the Indonesian Embassy to the DPRK.

"Nana's mission is to convey a friendly message to the DPRK side that Jakarta is willing to render some help in the current nuclear crisis," said the diplomat on condition of anonymity.

Nana will not bring any concrete proposals or suggestions to Pyongyang during his talks with DPRK officials, the diplomat said, adding that Nana's four-day schedule has not been confirmed till now.

Megawati proposed the visit some 10 days ago at a meeting with the North Korean ambassador to Indonesia.

It is not clear whether DPRK leader Kim Jong-il will meet the special envoy.

The DPRK established diplomatic ties with Indonesia in 1964. Megawati paid a three-day state visit to the DPRK last March, aiming at consolidating traditional friendship between the two countries.
