Three Iraqis Killed in US-British Air Raid

Three Iraqi civilians were killed Thursday in a US-British air attack in the western Iraqi province of Anbar, an Iraqi military spokesman said.

Three Iraqi civilians were killed Thursday in a US-British air attack in the western Iraqi province of Anbar, an Iraqi military spokesman said.

The attack occurred at about 4 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) in Anbar, some 110 kilometers to the west of Baghdad, the spokesman said.

The planes, taking off from Kuwait, carried out strikes against "civilian installations in Al-Anbar province" and "caused the martyrdom of three innocent citizens", the spokesman said in a dispatch carried by the official INA news agency.

On Monday, six Iraqi civilians were killed and 15 others woundedin another US-British air strike in the southern Iraqi province of Basra.

US and British warplanes have intensified their flights over theno-fly zone imposed on southern Iraq over the past days, as the twocountries have readied over 200,000 troops in the Gulf for a war onIraq to disarm it of weapons of mass destruction.

US and British warplanes carried out 214 armed sorties over 20 cities and towns in southern Iraq on Tuesday and on Wednesday only,the Iraqi military spokesman said.

The United States and Britain imposed two no-fly zones in the north and souther of Iraq 12 years ago, under the pretext of protecting Iraqi Kurds in the north and Shiite Muslims in the southfrom alleged Iraqi army attacks.
