President Roh Moo-hyun Tuesday designated Song Kwang-soo, chief of the Taegu High Prosecutor's Office, as new prosecutor general, replacing Kim Kack-young, who resigned from the position Sunday.

Chong Wa Dae officials said one of Song's foremost jobs is to give stability to the prosecution, which has been reeling from public criticism that it has been swayed by political powers in deciding some sensitive issues, such as the illegal money remittance to North Korea.
