Economy of S. China SEZ Remains Robust

In the first two months of 2003, economic growth was as strong as last year's corresponding period in this special economic zone in south China, the city statistics bureau said.

In the first two months of 2003, economic growth was as strong as last year's corresponding period in this special economic zone in south China, the city statistics bureau said.

The growth rate remained double-digit, or 13.8 percent for the period, and its GDP was 6.773 billion yuan (819 million US dollars).

Zhuhai, bordering Macao, is one of China's five special economic zones.

In the first two months, the city registered 2.9 billion yuan (349 million US dollars) in industrial added-value, or up 18 percent over the same period of last year.

The city's foreign trade volume reached two billion US dollars, up nearly 60 percent from the same period of last year. Its exports were 766 million US dollars, up 54 percent, according to statistics.
