China Southern Airlines Records 70 pct Rise in Net Profit

China Southern Airlines Company Limited announced Monday its parent company Southern Airlines Group registered a net profit rise of 69.2 percent in 2002 to 576 million yuan (about 69 million US dollars) compared with the previous year.

China Southern Airlines Company Limited announced Monday its parent company Southern Airlines Group registered a net profit rise of 69.2 percent in 2002 to 576 million yuan (about 69 million US dollars) compared with the previous year.

Wang Changshun, vice chairman and president of the company, said the group's operating revenue increased by 6.7 percent to 18 billion yuan (2.17 billion US dollars), which was mainly derived from passenger, cargo and mail traffic.

In 2002, the company recorded a traffic volume of over 20 million passengers, and cargo and mail revenue increased by 27 percent due to the opening of two international cargo routes last year.
