Second British Soldier Dies in Action in Iraq

A second British soldier was killed in action in Iraq overnight, the 18th British serviceman to have died since the US-led war on Iraq began on Thursday, media reports here said on Tuesday.

A second British soldier was killed in action in Iraq overnight, the 18th British serviceman to have died since the US-led war on Iraq began on Thursday, media reports here said on Tuesday.

The soldier, from the 1st Battalion The Black Watch, was killed in an operation near the town of Al Zubayr, about 140 kilometers west of Basra, the reports quoted a British military source as saying.

It was not known how the second British soldier died.

It came after that a UK soldier was shot dead in southern Iraq.

Sergeant Steven Mark Roberts, 33, of the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, died on Monday morning near the city of Basra.

Sixteen other British servicemen had died in accidents, including two RAF Tornado pilots shot down by a US Patriot missilebattery.

Another two British soldiers had gone missing since their vehicle was hit on Sunday in southern Iraq.
