DPRK Suspends Liaison with US

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday suspended liaison with US forces at Panmunjom, accusing the United States of its joint military exercises with South Korea and repeated aerial espionage against the DPRK, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

The DPRK would not send its liaison officer to the regular contacts of liaison officers at Panmunjom, the chief delegate of the Korean People's Army (KPA) side to the DPRK-US general-level talks said in a telephone message to the US side.

"It is meaningless to sit together with the US forces side to discuss any issues as long as it remains arrogant", the message said.

In the message, the DPRK said the repeated aerial espionage by the United States against the DPRK totally breached the Armistice Agreement and continued putting the preemptive attack on the DPRK into practice step by step.

In late February, a spokesman for the Panmunjom mission of the Korean People's Army warned of its possible withdrawal from the Armistice Agreement if the United States furthered its war moves and exercised sanctions against the DPRK in breach of the Armistice Agreement.

"The KPA side will have no option but to take new important measures" for self-defense if the US side continue putting the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war, the messagewarned.

The Armistice Agreement was signed in 1953 after the three-yearKorean War ended with the United States's defeat.
