German-based chemical mogul BASF recently launched its 16th project in China -- an office in Qingdao, a port city in east China's Shandong Province.

Shandong Province contributes 8 percent of BASF's total business volume on the Chinese mainland, and most of its business in the province is concentrated in Qingdao, according to Dr. Friedrich Karl Seitz, chairman of BASF China.

Establishing an office in Qingdao will help the German chemicalgroup provide better services in a more direct way for its partners in the city and in the whole province, said Seitz.

Currently, BASF operates three wholly-owned companies and sevenjoint ventures in Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou and Shenyang cities. It has set up offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Nanjing.

Employing more than 2,600 local people, the chemical giant has become one of the biggest foreign investors in China.

BASF, a leading world chemical group, produces plastics, dyes, pigments, auto coatings, specialty chemicals and oil and gas.
