Additional US troops have arrived in Baghdad to focus on restoring law and order in the Iraqi capital after the Iraqi leadership vaporized in the country, a spokesman of the US Central Command said on Saturday.

The coalition forces have not yet imposed a curfew in Baghdad but are working with local religious leaders, who will decide what behavior will be acceptable in their communities, to improve security in Baghdad and elsewhere, where widespread looting and anarchy are continuing, Brigadier General Vincent Brooks told a press conference.

It is still "a bit early" to say how police forces will be organized in Iraq to maintain public order in cities, Brooks said.

The US officer said the first group of aircraft carrying humanitarian aid for Iraqis, provided by Kuwait and the International Red Crescent, landed at Saddam International Airporton Friday.
