48 Bodies Recovered after Two Ferries Sink in Bangladesh

Forty-eight bodies were recovered after two ferries sank in two places of Bangladesh after they were hit by storm on Monday evening, reported the official Bangladesh News Agency.

Forty-eight bodies were recovered after two ferries sank in two places of Bangladesh after they were hit by storm on Monday evening, reported the official Bangladesh News Agency.

The forty-eight bodies were recovered from a ferry carrying about 300 passengers as it sank at Pagla near Dhaka after it was caught in the storm. The storm with the wind speed of 70 km per hour swept through the capital and its adjoining areas.

Another ferry carrying some 100 passengers sank in a river in northeastern Kishoreganj, some 90 miles from the capital, the samescene of the ferry disaster on April 12 claiming about 70 lives.

Ferry disaster is common during the seasons of tropical storms and monsoon in Bangladesh which is criss-crossed by nearly 250 rivers.

It is difficult to have the exact number of passengers of a ferry as the ferry authorities do not maintain passenger list and do not even give tickets.
