Chinese Mainland Reports 181 New SARS Cases

The Chinese mainland reports 181 new SARS cases and 9 new deaths between 10:00 a.m. May 2 and 10:00 a.m. May 3, according to the Ministry of Health Saturday. The cumulative SARS cases on the Chinese mainland rose to 3,971 and 190 had died.

The Chinese mainland reports 181 new SARS cases (including 33 medical workers) and 9 new deaths between 10:00 a.m. May 2 and 10:00 a.m. May 3, according to the Ministry of Health Saturday. Of the 181 cases, 94 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients.

The cumulative SARS cases on the Chinese mainland rose to 3,971 (including 810 medical workers) and 190 had died as of 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Some 1,406 SARS patients have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery.

On May 3, 15 provinces have new reports on SARS, of which, 6 provinces reported both new SARS cases and new suspected cases, 1 province reported new SARS cases, and 8 provinces reported new suspected cases, and the remaining 16 provinces reported no case.

26 provinces have reported SARS cases. So far, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai provinces and Tibet Autonomous Region have not found any SARS cases. In addition, Fujin Province has reported no new case 25 days in a row while Jiangxi and Shandong provinces have reported no new cases 9 days in a row.

Beijing reported 114 new cases (of which 48 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients), 6 patients recovered and 5 deaths; Tianjin reported 18 new cases (of which 16 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients), 1 patient recovered and 1 death; Hebei reported 9 new cases (of which 6 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients); Shanxi reported 18 new cases (of which 14 used to be a suspected case and now are confirmed as SARS patients), 1 patients recovered and 2 deaths; Inner Mongolia reported 10 new cases (all of them used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients), 1 recovered, and 1 death; Guangdong reported 11 new cases, and 25 recovered; Ningxia reported 1 new case.

From 10 am of May 2 to 10 am of May 3, China also reported 251 new suspected cases, including 104 from Beijing, 16 from Tianjin, 8 from Hebei, 24 from Shanxi, 13 from Inner Mongolia, 3 from Shanghai, 4 from Jiangsu, 1 from Anhui, 1 from Henan, 1 from Hunan, 69 from Guangdong, 3 from Sichuan, 3 from Shaanxi, and 1 from Xinjiang.

During this period, various local reports also ruled out a total of 63 suspected cases, including 31 from Beijing, 13 from Inner Mongolia, 6 from Guangdong, 5 from Shanxi, 3 from Tianjin, 1 from Shanghai, 1 from Hunan, 1 from Guangxi, and 1 from Xinjiang. By 10 am of May 3, China had a total of 2,553 suspected cases.
