The Russian Soyuz-TMA-1 spacecraft carrying two American astronauts and one Russian cosmonaut successfully landed in Kazakhstan at 06:07 a.m. Moscow time (0207 GMT) on Sunday, Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Earlier in the day, the spacecraft docked from the International Space Station (ISS) at 02:43 a.m. Moscow time (2243 GMT).

American astronauts Ken Bowersox and Donald Pettit and Russian cosmonaut Nikolai Budarin landed safely some 90 km north of Arkalyk in central Asia's Kazakhstan, Russian officials at mission control outside Moscow were quoted by Itar-Tass as saying.

The officials said the landing proceeded in a normal procedure.

The Russian Cosmonauts' Training Center (CTC) forecast earlier that the weather conditions are favorable for the landing of the capsule.

The return to earth of the American-Russian trio, who had been on board the ISS for 161 days since November, were delayed for an extra two months after the tragedy of U.S. Columbia space shuttle, which disintegrated over Texas on Feb. 1, killing all seven astronauts on board.

The trio were replaced on the ISS on April 28 by Russian flightcommander Yuri Malenchenko and US flight engineer Edward Lu, the seventh exploration team to the station, who were taken by a SoyuzTMA-2 capsule.
