An AN-12 plane found Russia's Soyuz-TMA-1 space capsule, which landed earlier on Sunday in Kazakhstan, at 08:21 a.m. Moscow time (0421 GMT), Itar-Tass reported.

Rescue staff opened the hatches of the capsule after a more-than-two-hour air search and found American astronauts Ken Bowersox and Donald Pettit and Russian cosmonaut Nikolai Budarin on board "in good health", officials at Russian Mission control said.

The capsule was spotted at 49.37 degrees north latitude and 61.20 degrees east longitude in central Asia's Kazakhstan, considerably deviated over 400 km from the original designated landing site, the news agency said.

The AN-12 plane was on the mission to search for the parachute of the capsule and render assistance to the cosmonauts.

Communication had been maintained with the cosmonauts during the descent, but was interrupted shortly before the moment of the landing.
