The only cross-bred cub of a tiger and lion now living in China has been named "Zaizai" (lovely baby).
Zaizai, a male, was one of three cubs born to a male tiger and a female lion on March 27 in World Window, a theme park in Changsha, capital city of central China's
Hunan
province. The other two later died.
On April 8, World Window made a public appeal for a good name for the cub through newspapers, TV, broadcast and the Internet. On April 17, it chose six names including Zaizai, Huozhe (living), Keqi (miracle), Shasha, Xinxing, Maliqi.
From April 17, more than 23,970 people made their opinion known through the telephone and Internet. Finally, 10,026 people preferred "Zaizai", a name characteristic to Hunan.
After delivery, Zaizai was sent to the Hunan Children's Hospital for emergency treatment. Because of a lack of his mother's milk, Zaizai now relies on goat milk.
According to experts from World Window and the hospital, Zaizaiis now in good health and has a good appetite.
China's first tiger-lion was born in Nanjing, capital of east China's
Jiangsu
Province, in 2001, but died just a week later.
