US Dropping of Anti-DPRK Policy Not a Reward: KCNA

The renunciation of the United States' anti-DPRK policy is not a "reward" for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), but an act it should have taken long ago, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Tuesday.

The renunciation of the United States' anti-DPRK policy is not a "reward" for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), but an act it should have taken long ago, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Tuesday.

The DPRK has clarified that the US hostile policy toward the DPRK is a "major stumbling block" standing in the way of resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and ensuring peace, the KCNA said in a commentary.

The US deep-rooted hostile policy toward the DPRK is, in essence, aimed to "destroy the DPRK by force," said the commentary.

"The DPRK was, therefore, compelled to build up a deterrent force for self-defense to cope with it," the KCNA said.

The US hostile policy towards the DPRK has hamstrung the efforts to warm up the inter-Korean and the DPRK-Japan relations, as well as the DPRK-US relations, it added.

The US administration, however, asserted that Washington's dropping of its hostile policy toward the DPRK would be a "reward," which shows that the US has no political will to fairly settle the nuclear issue but seeks to make the situation more tense, it said.
