Investment in fixed assets grew 30.5 percent year on year in the first four months of the year, China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Thursday.

The NBS said the growth of capital investment was 3.4 percentage points higher than in the same period of last year, butwas 1.1 percentage point lower than in the first quarter of this year.

NBS figures showed that the fixed asset investment totaled 726.5 billion yuan (87.8 billion US dollars) from January to April.

Growth of investment in technical renovation and real estate development slowed in April. However, investment in coal mining, electricity, metal melting, chemicals, machinery, electronics, textiles and construction still grew rapidly.

The NBS said investment in most areas of the country was slowing, with 21 of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities seeing slower growth than in the first quarter of the year.

However, the NBS said 16 of the 21 regions maintained an investment growth of more than 35 percent in the first four months.
