One woman was killed and 47 others injured in a time-bomb blast at a private-owned cinema hall in a town in southern Bago division of the country on Thursday night, official newspaper The New Light of Myanmar reported Saturday.

The bombing, which occurred while the people were watching the film in Phyu, some 200 kilometers north of Yangon, was the latestin a recent series of sabotage which the military government has blamed on the Kayin National Union (KNU).

The government said last week that between April 23 and May 10,the KNU, the largest anti-government ethnic armed group in the country, committed destructive acts in the Kayin state and Tanintharyi division for eight times including mines planting, shooting, looting and arson, killing eight people and injuring 25.

Since 1989, 17 anti-government armed groups have made peace with the government. It is reported that there are over 10 such groups still in operation in the country including the Chin National Army, the Arakan Liberation Front, the Shan United Revolutionary Army and the Lahu Democratic Front in addition to the KNU.
