South China City to Build 136 New Industrial Projects

A total of 136 industrial projects in Shantou, in south China's Guangdong Province, will be built in 2003, involving a combined investment of 6.1 billion yuan (737 million US dollars), according to the Shantou authorities.

A total of 136 industrial projects in Shantou, in south China's Guangdong Province, will be built in 2003, involving a combined investment of 6.1 billion yuan (737 million US dollars), according to the Shantou authorities.

The projects will generate an estimated 10 billion yuan (1.2 billion US dollars) in industrial output value for Shantou, said the authorities.

The new projects cover the textile, garment, chemical, pharmaceutical, toy, electronics, machinery and food industries.

Advanced technologies will be introduced into traditional industries such as textiles, garments and toys to improve quality.

The Shantou municipal government has pledged to offer preferential policies, including financial support, to investors, in order to expedite the construction of the projects.
