Outgoing Argentine President Eduardo Duhalde on Saturday asked the opposition to put aside differences and rally behind President-elect Nestor Kirchner, who will take office on May 25.

In his weekly radio show, "Talking with the President," Duhaldeasked members of his Justicialista Party (PJ) and opponents to support the new president, who is tasked to address Argentina's economic woes.

"The opposition should be more prudent and avoid criticism for at least this year," said Duhalde.

He pledged to contribute with his experience to the new government but made clear that he would not be available for any official position either in the government or in the PJ party.

Kirchner, Duhalde's hand-picked man for the presidency, met hisadvisers on Saturday to discuss the direction of his new government. The new cabinet is expected to be unveiled early next week.

Kirchner automatically became president-elect after his rival, former President Carlos Menem, withdrew from the second round runoff scheduled for Sunday.

Menem, who is also from the PJ party, pulled out of the race after opinion polls put him far behind Kirchner.
