Four Criminals Executed in China's Capital

Four people have been executed in Beijing, the national capital, on Monday. The Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court carried out the executions following a decree signed by the president of the Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court.

Four people have been executed in Beijing, the national capital, on Monday. The Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court carried out the executions following a decree signed by the president of the Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court.

The four criminals included a 46-year-old woman, Yuan Xiuzhen, and three men, Hu Aizhong, Yang Pinwu and Chen Shibin.

The woman, a native Beijing resident, who had earlier been sentenced to imprisonment because of embezzlement and defrauding and later released on bail for medical treatment. But while she was on bail, she murdered an elderly man in his 80s, when the latter asked her to return his money, more than 17,000 yuan (about2,050 US dollars). She knocked down the helpless old man with a liquor bottle and small iron balls and suffocated him with a washing towel.

The three men were peasant farmers from central China's Henan province, eastern Anhui province and southwestern Sichuan province,respectively. They were convicted of murders, thefts and the use of violence in the course of three separate robberies.
