Shenzhen Customs Reports Increase in Tariff Revenue

The Shenzhen Customs Bureau in south China's Guangdong province collected 11.05 billion yuan (133million US dollars) in tariff revenue in the first four months of this year, up 48.49 percent year-on-year.

The Shenzhen Customs Bureau in south China's Guangdong province collected 11.05 billion yuan (133million US dollars) in tariff revenue in the first four months of this year, up 48.49 percent year-on-year.

The latest statistics from the customs bureau show that import and export volume via Shenzhen Port in the first four months of this year totaled 41 billion US dollars, up 44.3 percent year-on-year, including 19.26 billion US dollars in imports, an increase of over 40 percent.

In April alone, the Shenzhen bureau collected customs taxes totaling 3.12 billion yuan (376 million US dollars), up 40.05 percent year-on-year, including 560 million yuan (67.5 million US dollars) in tariffs and 2.56 billion yuan (300 million US dollars)in import taxes.

According to the customs official, drastic increases in the import of machinery products, automobiles, crude and finished oil products and medicines and medical apparatuses and appliances usedin SARS prevention and treatment account for the increased tariff revenue.
