Premier Wen Sends Condolence to Sri Lankans Hit by Disasters

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a condolence message on Tuesday to his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe, expressing sincere sympathy with Sri Lankans who were hit by floods and landslides days ago.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a condolence message on Tuesday to his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe, expressing sincere sympathy with Sri Lankans who were hit by floods and landslides days ago.

Wen said in the message that he was shocked to learn that heavyfloods and landslides had hit Sri Lanka's southern and southwestern parts recently and caused human and property losses.

The premier expressed the sympathy on behalf the Chinese government and people, and in his own name, with the Sri Lankans in the disaster areas.

Wen said he believed that under the leadership of the Sri Lankan government, the Sri Lankan people would soon overcome the difficulties caused by the disasters and rebuild their homes.

At least 141 people were killed and over 85,000 families left homeless in Sri Lanka over the weekend in the worst floods that the country had experienced since 1947.
