Taiwan reported 55 new SARS cases on Friday, ten fewer than a record daily increase of 65 on Thursday. The death toll remained at 60 and 82 people have recovered from the virus.

The death toll remained at 60 and 82 people have recovered from the virus.

The authorities say the disease has peaked in Taipei. The island is now trying to contain the spread in the south after three hospital outbreaks in the past week.
