At least two people were killed and dozens of other injured Friday in a chain car crash involving as many as 150 cars on an interstate expressway in eastern United States, local television reports said.

Heavy traffic combined with heavy fog was suspected as the cause of the series of accidents on Interstate 68 in western Maryland, the reports said.

Visibility was said to be near zero in the mountain range, where the accidents occurred, as people rushed for weekend.

Authorities shut down 20 miles (32 kilometers) of the highway after the accidents.
