At Least 3 Killed In Explosion On Norwegian Cruise Ship
At least three people were killed and 20 others injured Sunday when an explosion occurred on a Norwegian cruise ship docked in Miami, Florida, the United States, local officials said.

The explosion, followed by a fire, occurred in the boiler room of Norwegian Cruise Line's SS Norway.

Florida Coast Guard officials said four crew members died, but Miami-Dade County officials confirmed only three deaths. None of the ship's more than 2,100 passengers were killed or injured.

The injured crew were taken to a local hospital, and eight of them were in critical condition, the officials said.

The ship was docked at the Port of Miami early on Sunday after a week-long Caribbean cruise, with 2,135 passengers and 911 crew members on board, port director Charles Towsley said.

The explosion occurred five days after the United States raised the country's terror alert level from yellow to orange, meaning high risk of terrorist attacks.

However, Miami-Dade Police Director Carlos Alvarez said the explosion was likely to be caused by a steam leak.

The fire was put out after approximately one hour, and all the passengers were evacuated, the officials said.
