The Chinese Ministry of Commerce Tuesday warned Chinese citizens against seeking work in Malaysia in view of the strict labor restrictions imposed by Malaysia in recent days.

Recently, a number of Chinese holding tourist or commercial visas and seeking work in Malaysia have found it impossible to find employment. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce is warning its citizens that Malaysia has not opened its labor market to Chinese and that foreigners accused of illegally residing in Malaysia may be subject to punishment.

In August 2002, the ministry sent a similar warning message.
