Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue on Tuesday urged Taipei to correct the error in the title of its World Trade Organization (WTO) representatives.

At a press conference, Zhang said that, since China's entry into the WTO, Chinese Taipei had repeatedly violated the presidential statement of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) passed in 1992 by including "one China, one Taiwan" and "two Chinas" as part of the title of its WTO representatives.

Taipei's actions have disturbed the normal functioning of the WTO and have been criticized by others, as well, Zhang said, expressing the hope that Taipei would correct its mistake and handle issues in strict accordance with the 1992 presidential statement of the GATT.

It is well known that Chinese Taipei joined the WTO as a separate customs territory of China, and its status is very clear, she noted.
