The Chinese Football Association (CFA) is pondering a proposal to resume in late June its professional leagues which have been postponed due to the SARS epidemic, local media reported Wednesday.

"Most clubs wanted the suspended leagues to resume as early as possible," CFA vice president Yang Yimin was quoted as saying by the Sports Weekly.

"But the CFA has no decision power on this matter," Yang said. "We have to take into consideration the opinions of all concerned parties."

The CFA Tuesday issued a circular to all clubs and local sports authorities to seek their opinions on the proposal.

The Sports Weekly quoted Yang as saying, "This move doesn't necessarily mean that the domestic season will surely re-open nextmonth."

"If local authorities object this plan over SARS concerns, the leagues will be further postponed," added the newspaper.

The CFA has postponed all soccer matches since May.
