Leaders of the Group of Eight (G8), the world's seven leading industrialized countries plus Russia, wrapped up their annual summit here on Tuesday, with the endorsement of a package of agreements such as on measures to stopthe spread of weapons of mass destruction and boost global economic growth.

In the form of declarations, action plans or statements, leaders from Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United States, as well as France, the hosting country of this year's G8 summit, also reached consensus on other issues -- anti-terrorism, trade, water, health, marine environment and tanker safety, transport security, science and technology for sustainabledevelopment, and actions against famine in Africa.

However, the G8 leaders did not produce specific proposals for boosting global economic growth and offering more aid to the developing world.

US President George W. Bush, who met with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac Monday morning for his first one-on-onetalks in the wake of the US-led war against Iraq, cut short his attendance at the summit and left for the Middle East after lunch on Monday.
