Forest Fire Extinguished in North China

Chinese firefighters have extinguished a forest fire which had raged since May 21 in the Greater Hinggan Mountains of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Chinese firefighters have extinguished a forest fire which had raged since May 21 in the Greater Hinggan Mountains of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

A source with the forest firefighters headquarters said Tuesdaythat the fire, which broke out in Mongolia and quickly spread to Hinggan League (or prefecture) in northeastern Inner Mongolia, wasthe largest ever fire to ever hit the 46,800-hectare Hinggan Mountain area.

Some 8,200 forestry workers and local officials battled together against the spreading forest fire, along with aid from four helicopters, four heavy-duty armored cars, 14 fire engines and 500 trucks.
