Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan province, will open up bidding for naming rights to itslongest city tunnel in west China on June 18.

A spokesman for the Chengdu municipal government told Xinhua onTuesday that the winning bidder will receive naming rights for 20 years, and the starting price is 3.8 million yuan (about 457,800 US dollars).

The one-km-long tunnel is a major south-north communication line of Chengdu, with a construction cost of 142 million yuan (some 17 million US dollars). The tunnel went into trial operation on April 29 this year.

The spokesman noted that the rights include four name signs at ends of the tunnel, which will also be signified on traffic signs and city maps.

Zhang Xiaoyan, director of the Chengdu municipal civil affairs bureau, said that the Chengdu municipal government had the right to regulate naming rights in place of the winning bidder in the event of possible bankruptcy, illegal activity involvement or merger.
