60 Primary School Students Injured in Schoolbus Accident

Sixty primary school students from Anhui Province were injured when their overloaded schoolbus overturned in Shanghai Thursday.

Sixty primary school students from Anhui Province were injured when their overloaded schoolbus overturned in Shanghai Thursday.

The highway patrol responded to the incident and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. The students, whose parents are farmers from east China's Anhui Province who work in Shanghai, attend the Fenfa Primary School.

Most of the students were discharged from the hospital Thursday,while 10 remained for observation and three were in stable condition following surgery.

The accident occurred at about 06:40 Thursday morning when the schoolbus was rear-ended by a container truck as it slowed to pickup students.

Police officer Cao Jianhong attributed the accident to the truck's brake failure and the unsafe overloaded conditions on the bus.

The 17-seat schoolbus was carrying 62 passengers at the time ofthe accident.
