Strong Quake Rattles Taiwan, No Reports of Damage
An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale rattled northeastern Taiwan Monday morning. There is no report of casualties or damage yet.

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale rattled northeastern
Taiwan
Monday morning. There is no report of casualties or damage yet.
The epicentre of the quake is on Taiwan's northeastern coast, about 60 kilometres from Taipei.
The tremor was felt across the province and two more aftershocks were recorded within one following hour.
Earthquakes are frequent in Taiwan, which lies on a seismically active stretch of the Pacific basin.
One of Taiwan's worst-recorded quakes occurred in September 1999. Measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, it killed more than 2,400 people and destroyed or damaged 50,000 buildings.
