Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Minister of Transportation Sa'di Al-Krounz on Monday protested against the Israeli decision to close down the international airport in Gaza.

The decision contravenes with the outcomes of the Aqaba summit, the minister said.

Both Israeli and Palestinian prime ministers stated theircommitments to implementing the internationally-backed roadmap peace plan at Wednesday's summit in Aqaba, Jordan.

Israel had previously announced the lifting of closure on theGaza airport as a good gesture to the Aqaba summit.

Al-Krounz urged the US administration to immediately interfere and intensify pressure on Israel to reopen the airport.

He also said he is in close contact with Abbas and theinternational quartet of the United States, the United Nations, theEuropean Union and Russia to press Israel to halt such provocativeacts.

The Israeli authorities asked the PNA to immediately evacuateits airport staff and employees following Sunday's back-to-backattacks by Palestinian militants in Gaza and the West Bank town ofHebron.

Five Israeli soldiers and five gunmen from radical Palestiniangroups were killed in the first armed clash after the Aqaba summit.
