The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Tuesday urged US President George W. Bush to immediately intervene in order to stop Israel from carrying out more military actions against the Palestinians.

PNA Information Minister Nabil Amer read a statement signed by Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) to reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah, in which the premier call on theUnited States to help stop the "Israeli daily aggressive military actions."

The statement was made after two Israeli Apache attack helicopters failed to assassinate Islamic resistance movement Hamasspokesman and senior leader Abdel Aziz Al-Ranteesi in Gaza earlier Tuesday, in which three Palestinians were killed and 33 others wereinjured.

"An urgent written appeal has been sent to President George W. Bush, warning that the continuous Israeli military actions against the Palestinians are threatening all the political efforts to implement the roadmap peace plan," said Amer.

He said that the Israeli continuation "of such bloody intentional attacks are not only harming the Palestinians, but it puts the whole area in risk and would affect the stability in the region."

"We urged him (Bush) for his immediate interventions," said Amer, adding that the attack against Ranteesi "was also aiming at hitting the national dialogue between the Palestinian leadership and the political factions.

In the PNA statement, Abbas called upon Hamas leaders "to understand the situation and understand that the aim is to break the determination of all the Palestinians to be united."

"They (Hamas leaders) have to cooperate in order to jump over this crisis and fill in all the gaps resulted in the previous few days," Abu Mazen was quoted as saying in the statement.

The statement condemned what it described "the bloody assassination attempt that aims at splitting our people and show usas people with big differences and lead us to internal fighting."

"If this Israeli policy of carrying out more military actions against the Palestinians would continue, we are afraid that there would be then no other possibility to seriously start with the implementation of the roadmap peace plan," said Amer.
