First Chinese Elected to Public Library Committee of IFLA

Li Jingxia, curator assistant in Wuhan Library in central China's Hubei Province, was informed Wednesday that she has been elected a standing member of the Public Library Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

Li Jingxia, curator assistant in Wuhan Library in central China's Hubei Province, was informed Wednesday that she has been elected a standing member of the Public Library Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

Li will be the first and the only Chinese on the committee.

She was invited to take part in the election of the 2003-2007 committee after attending the 68th IFLA conference in Britain last year. The Public Library Committee has 20 standing members. Twentypeople from 15 countries worldwide competed for the seven vacancies.

Li and other newly-elected standing members will take up their positions at the 69th IFLA conference in Berlin on August 1 this year.

Founded in 1927, the IFLA is an independent non-governmental organization founded to promote communication among libraries all over the world. A total of 1,852 institutions from 147 countries and regions have joined the organization.
