Egyptian Delegation to Hold Talks with Fatah, Opposition Factions

An Egyptian security delegation is scheduled to hold talks with Fatah and Palestinian militant factions on Sunday, well-informed Palestinian sources said.

An Egyptian security delegation is scheduled to hold talks with Fatah and Palestinian militant factions on Sunday, well-informed Palestinian sources said.

According to the sources, the delegation, which arrived in Gaza early on Sunday, will start talks with the mainstream Fatah, the Islamic resistance movement Hamas, and the Islamic Jihad (Holy War)at about 4:00 p.m. local time (1300 GMT) on Sunday.

On Monday, the Egyptian mediators will meet with representativesof other Palestinian groups, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

The delegation, headed by Mustafa Al-Bheiri, an aide to Egyptianintelligence chief Omar Suleiman, is entrusted the mission of reviving inter-factional talks and obtaining a ceasefire with Israel.

Abdul Aziz Rantissi, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza who escaped from an Israel's assasination attempt last week, will take part in the meeting.

Mohammed al-Hindi, head of the negotiation team of the Islamic Jihad, said his movement would listen to the proposals and suggestions of the Egyptian delegation and give its response later.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas will be briefed on the results of the meetings on Monday.

Suleiman himself is expected in Gaza on Monday.
