US Insists Palestinian State be Established

US peace envoy John Wolf reiterated Tuesday that the United States insists an independent Palestinian state be established by continuing the efforts to implement the road map peace plan for the Middle East.

Wolf told reporters following a meeting with Palestinian Minister for Foreign Affairs Nabil Shaath held in Ramallah that I came here with a team of observers to work with the two parties in order to implement the commitments of the two parties to accomplish the vision of President George W. Bush.

Shaath also told reporters after the meeting that beginning to implement the two parties commitments needs an Israeli cessation of all Israeli military actions against the Palestinians, adding that having US observers is a positive step.

He said he had told Wolf that the Palestinian position is clear toward the implementation of the road map peace plan: end of Israeli violence and assassination, release of prisoners and end of settlement establishment.

Wolf had earlier met with Palestinian Prime Minister Abu Mazen and his minister for security affairs, where he conveyed the US commitments toward obliging both sides to equally implementing the road map in parallel.
