Most Medical Students Say No Regret for Choice of Profession Despite SARS

As many as 82 percent of medical students with the Capital University of Medical Sciences have claimed, in response to a survey, that, if they had to choose again, in the face of the SARS crisis, they would still choose to become doctors.

The university recently designed a survey on students admitted in 2001 and 2002 to evaluate the degree to which the outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) has affected them. The results showed that an overwhelming majority of students were unshakable in their choices, despite the fact that they had witnessed a great number of deaths among medical personnel during the SARS crisis.

About nine percent of the surveyed students said that, if they could choose again, they would choose another profession, while another nine percent expressed uncertainty.
