Malaria Kills over 500 People in Southern Angola

At least 571 people, including children and women, died of malaria during the first quarter of this year in Angola's southern province of Huambo.

At least 571 people, including children and women, died of malaria during the first quarter of this year in Angola's southern province of Huambo.

Ernesto Salomao, the head of the local public health department,was quoted by Angolan news agency Angop as saying on Wednesday that malaria was the main cause of deaths which occurred during the first quarter of the year in the province.

The official added that throughout this period, a total of 126,588 cases were reported.

According to the Angolan Ministry of Health, 120,000 people dieof the killer disease among 3 million cases of malaria reported every year in the country.
