Chinese Girl Granted US 'President Scholarship Prize'

Cheng Geng, a girl student of Wuxi now studying in Philadelphia, USA, will go to the White House on June 22 for accepting a symbolized highest prize-the "President Scholarship Prize" for graduates from the US high school.

According to the report of Yangtze Evening Paper, Cheng Geng's grandparents in laws are now living in a branch of Yangwan Road in Wuxi, and days ago Cheng Geng called them over the phone. According to Li Xiuhui, Chen Geng's Grandmother in law who had been teaching for many years, Chen Geng is going to graduate from the US high school this year. In the SAT examination, known as a "stepping stone for studying in the US university" she has scored full mark. As there is no uniformed university entrance examination in the USA the SAT exam organized by the US Educational Testing Service is taken by many universities as standard exam scores for appraising a student, namely the exam being considered as authoritative as the "university entrance exam" in China. Moreover, Chen Geng also got through the AP course exam with full score. With these scores obtained in the high school a student may acquire scores in his/her university study. Notwithstanding, the drawing skill she learned from her grandfather in law when she was a pupil in primary school has also rendered her many prizes regional or national in the USA.

The news that Chen Geng had won the prize was put onto the Chinese media in the USA. As learned, the "president scholarship prize" is granted only to over 100 high school graduates chosen out from all the US states every year with one for boy and another for girl student. The prizewinner must not only be excellent in scores gained in his /her studies but has also to be above everybody else at extracurricular studies, competent in the leading and individual personality and contribution to the society as well.

Chen Geng's parents are engaged in hi-tech work in the USA. Chen Geng, born in l985, was taken to the US by her parents at three and half years old and returned to study in a primary school affiliated to Wuxi Normal School in 1993. She went back to continue her study in the USA after her graduation from the primary school.
