NW. China Province Reports Growth in Apple Exports

Northwest China's Shaanxi province recorded a year-on-year rise of 83.9 percent in apple exports during the first five months of this year, maintaining a growth momentum.

Northwest China's Shaanxi province recorded a year-on-year rise of 83.9 percent in apple exports during the first five months of this year, maintaining a growth momentum.

According to the provincial fruit business bureau, the provincewitnessed a rise of 50.4 percent in the export of enriched apple juice, with the price increasing 77 US dollars per ton on average.

The province has given priority to apple development in recent years, and has so far planted 700,000 mu (46,666 hectares) of apple trees, with an additional one million mu (66,666 hectares) under construction.

Shaanxi has become the country's largest apple production base,and it has developed enriched apple juice production capacity of 300,000 tons, the largest in the country.

The province exported 128,400 tons of enriched apple juice in 2002, up 51.2 percent year-on-year, earning foreign exchange as high as 50 percent of the province's total in the farm product processing sector.
