North China's Tianjin to Boost Cement Production Capacity

North China's Tianjin Municipalityhas pledged to develop additional cement production capacity topping 9.5 million tons in two years, to ease a shortage in the cement market.

North China's Tianjin Municipalityhas pledged to develop additional cement production capacity topping 9.5 million tons in two years, to ease a shortage in the cement market.

According to the municipal administration, the city will put into operation two cement production lines in two years, which will increase annual production capacity by 2.5 million tons.

Another 6 cement production lines with an annual production capacity topping 6.9 million tons will also be put into operation.

Tianjin has witnessed increasing demand for building materials in recent years, due to massive investment in infrastructure facilities.

The city's annual demand for cement ranged between 7.5 million tons and 8 million tons. However, the city's annual cement output stood between 3.5 million tons and 3.8 million tons. About 60 percent of the city's supply of cement comes from the provinces ofHebei, Shandong and Henan.

Tianjin is launching an economic development strategy focusing on the marine chemical industry and the areas across the Haihe River, which runs through the city.

According to an initial estimate, the city's demand for cement is expected to exceed 10 million tons in two years.

Upon completion of a group of new cement production lines, the city will produce an annual cement output of 13.5 million tons.
