A strong rainstorm swept through Chongqing, the largest municipality in southwestern China, in the past two days.

Heavy rainfall totaling 110 mm poured onto Chongqing's main urban areas from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, local meteorological sources said.

The strongest rainstorm this year concentrated on the urban areas and had little effect on some remote areas, said Liu De, deputy director of the Chongqing Meteorological Station.

The rainfall did not affect the Three Gorges reservoir area in Hubei Province on the Yangtze River.

June and July are rainy months for Chongqing and another rainstorm might come after June 25, Liu said.
