Kazakhstan will fully reopen its borders with China which were closed due to the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in China, the government information office said on Thursday.

Kazakh Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov signed a decree on Thursday, ordering the reopening of the border points next Wednesday.

The Kazakh government decided to reopen its borders with China after SARS has been under control in the country, said a press release from the government information office.

Akhmetov ordered security, customs, transportation, telecommunications, tourism and other relevant government bodies to make preparations for the reopening of the borders.

As from next Wednesday, air, railway, and highway traffic and the free movement of people between the two countries will be resumed.

Kazakhstan closed its borders with China in early May.

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization removed Beijing from its list of SARS infected areas and lifted its travel advisory against the city.
