Chinese Premier, Indian PM Talk over Phone

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Friday afternoon.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Friday afternoon.

Before the end of his visit to China, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee made a phone call from Shanghai to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

Vajpayee expressed his thanks to the Chinese government and Chinese people for their hospitalities.

Vajpayee said he and Chinese leaders had made several important decisions during his visit to China in the past few days, which laid a solid foundation for the long-term development of bilateral relations.

Wen said Indian Prime Minister's visit to China was fruitful and successful.

"The Declaration on Principles for Relations and Comprehensive Cooperation Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of India signed by us is a document of historical significance, which has been welcomed and applauded by the two peoples and the international community," Wen said.

China was ready to make joint efforts with India to abide by the principles of the declaration and implement the tasks, so as to upgrade the friendly and cooperative relations for mutual benefit and write a new chapter of friendship between China and India, he said.
