Thailand Pushes for More Trade, Investment with China

The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) is joining up with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai-Chinese Business Council to push for further trade and investment in China.

The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) is joining up with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai-Chinese Business Council to push for further trade and investment in China.

A report of Thai News Agency said Friday that BOI is setting upa team to meet Chinese businesspeople to study market opportunities and possibilities for business collaboration.

Noting the success of a recent visit to Beijing and Kunming by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and a delegation of Thaiofficials, BOI Secretary-General Somphong Wannapha said that the BOI would follow up the trip by launching a China investment offensive.

The project will be launched within the next month and will conduct in-depth studies of investment opportunities in both countries.

Chinese companies have showed their interest in investing in the Thai herbal industry, industrial estates, mobile phone production, and the establishment of a special economic zone in Chiang Rai, he said.

The BOI secretary-general said that the BOI also planned to follow up the signing of a free trade deal in fruit and vegetablesbetween the two countries, which will come into force on October 1.
