A boat sank Saturday in flooding river in Cenxi City of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, leaving one dead and seven missing.

The craft was sailing in disregard of an official navigation ban during the flood prevention period.

Preliminary investigations show the boat ran into a cable line, which fell into the water after breaking under the strain of consistent torrential rain. All 13 passengers aboard the boat fellinto the water.

According to survivors, boat owner Huo Hanhuai decided to sail at the request of a local farmer, whose wife was in labor. Local customs decree that women should give birth to their baby at home.
