July 1 marks the 82nd birthday of the Communist Party of China. Under the first light of dawn, hundreds of CPC members and Beijing residents attended the daily flagraising ceremony on Tian'anmen Square in the center of Beijing to celebrate the occasion.

Among those attending the flagraising ceremony were party representatives who have fought at the forefront of the SARS epidemic. In this campaign, these medical workers put their personal safety aside, and strictly observed professional ethics to carry out their duties with wholehearted devotion. Their hard work has resulted in the containment of SARS in China. This of course is the best birthday gift they could possibly present to the Communist Party.

"I came to attend the flag raising ceremonies here before, but today my feelings are different. The Party's birthday coincides with the victory in our fight against SARS. When I see the national flag rising under the sun, I feel the greatness of the Chinese nation and the Party, " said a doctor from You'an Hospital, Beijing.

"As a probationary Party member, I wish for a prosperous and strong motherland," a probationary Party member said.

Under the national flag, the Party members and the general public share the glory of the nation and the Party, and honor their responsibilities to both on this very special day.
